About us
Who is Pieces of Eight Golf?
We're a small maker of premium golf ball markers based in Carlsbad, California. Every design is created in limited quantities for golfers who want something better than a poker chip or loose change.
Why "Pieces of Eight"?
A piece of eight was a Spanish silver coin worth eight reales. It was the world's first global currency and a favorite of pirates. Its denomination mark, "8R," is our name and our logo, and many of our designs nod to that history.
The markers
What are your markers made of?
Our markers are solid brass or stainless steel. Select designs add inlays such as natural abalone shell, leather or contrasting metal. Each product page lists its exact materials.
How big are they?
Most markers are 32mm (about 1.25 inches) across and 3mm thick. That's big enough to spot on the green and heavy enough to feel substantial in your pocket.
Are they legal for tournament play?
Yes. The Rules of Golf let you mark your ball with a coin, a tee or another small object, and they don't set a size limit for markers. If your marker is in another player's line, move it aside just as you would any marker.
Will my marker change over time?
It depends on the metal:
• Brass darkens and develops a patina with use. Many golfers like the character it builds. A metal polish brings back the shine if you prefer.
• Stainless steel holds its finish and needs little more than a wipe.
• Abalone and other inlays are natural and vary from piece to piece. Clean them with a soft, dry cloth and keep polish off the inlay.
Are the designs really limited?
Yes. We make each design in small runs, and when a design sells out it may not return. Join our email list to hear about new releases first.
How should I carry my marker?
In a pocket or in our Leather Vault sleeve, which protects the face from keys and coins.
Ordering and gifts
Do your markers make good gifts?
They're one of the most popular things we sell for birthdays, Father's Day, retirements and the golfer who has everything. If you're unsure of their taste, a classic design in stainless steel is a safe choice.
Can I return a gift?
Yes. Gift recipients get store credit once the return arrives, and we won't tell the giver. See our returns policy for details.

Custom work and events
Do you make custom markers?
Yes, for golf outings, tournaments, member-guests, clubs and businesses. Email sales@8rgolf.com with your event, quantity, date and any artwork, and we'll reply with options and a quote. Custom orders are final sale once you approve the proof.
How far ahead should I order for an event?
The earlier the better. Reach out at least six weeks before your event so there's time for design, proof approval and production.
Shipping and returns
Where do you ship?
We ship within the United States only, including US territories and military addresses.
How long will my order take?
In-stock orders ship within 1–3 business days. Standard shipping is free, and faster shipping is available at checkout. See our shipping policy for details.
What's your return policy?
You can return unused items in their original packaging within 30 days of delivery. Custom and personalized pieces are final sale. If anything arrives damaged or wrong, we'll make it right. See our returns policy for the full terms.
